Description
DPRG and partners recently completed a 2-year research project, Circular Wood 4.0. The goal was to develop digital design-to-production systems for left-over wood, targeting hospitality interiors and furniture. As a follow-up, a full-size wall paneling system made from left-over wood was demonstrated and installed in a new hospitality venue in Leeuwarden. The system covers a 32 m² wall. Panels were digitally designed with a “design generator” using algorithms and dimensioned to fit the exact wall surface. They were produced from overproduction wood waste from a manufacturer of bespoke, high-end ceilings. The 59 generated wall panels were automatically translated into production code for fabrication with an industrial 5-axis CNC machine.
This wall demonstrates the high-end re-use of wood waste and its upscaling through computational design and robotic production. This presentation will be in English.
