Description

AEQUALIS INNOVATIONS WORKSHOP - DESIGN FOR REPAIR
Date: 10 September 2025 Location: 1931 Congress Centre, ’s-Hertogenbosch, The Netherlands
Workshop Overview
Repair is no longer an afterthought in the TCLF sector but a regulatory and economic necessity. With the Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation (ESPR), the forthcoming Right to Repair Directive, and the Digital Product Passport (DPP), companies face new obligations to design garments that can be repaired, reused, and kept in circulation. Exploratory conversations with Dutch entrepreneurs revealed that most are either not preparing or struggling with these new requirements.
To address this, the Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences (AUAS) and Modint organised a roundtable session on repair. The discussion examined how designing for repair reshapes value creation, business models, and customer relationships. The session also explored opportunities for innovation—from service-based offerings to local repair ecosystems—while addressing the practical challenges of regulatory compliance
