Description

Talk: Bridging the Narrative Gap in Climate Communication
Despite the abundance of climate data, making it resonate with diverse audiences remains challenging. This talk explores the “narrative gap” – the disconnect between abstract data and personal narratives – and offers storytelling strategies to bridge it. Drawing from successful examples like Blue Planet, ecological story-making workshops, and experimental visual formats such as comics, we examine how emotional resonance can enhance engagement and understanding. The talk also highlights the value of co-creation in understanding audience needs and tailoring narratives to specific communities.

Brainstorm: Engaging Youth on Climate Narratives
After the talk, you're welcome to join a 1.5-hour brainstorm to explore collaboratively how to create more inclusive and engaging climate communication—especially for young audiences. In this hands-on session we'll explore how climate narratives can better reach young audiences. Participants will reflect on a chosen climate story—book, article, film, etc.—and analyze its appeal by mapping storytelling elements like emotion, format, and surprise. Building on these insights, we’ll brainstorm ways to make climate communication more relevant, relatable, and engaging for youth.
