Description

The conference GenAI & Creative Practices: Past, Present, and Future, held on 17–18 December 2025 at the University of Amsterdam, brought together an international group of researchers, artists, and practitioners to critically examine how generative AI is reshaping creative work and cultural production.

The programme combined academic panels, keynote talks, and an artistic track, addressing themes such as the transformation of creative practices, the political economy of generative AI, and questions of ethics, governance, and labour in AI-driven cultural industries. Discussions focused on how generative models influence authorship, trust in digital media, and the conditions under which creative work is produced and valued.

In addition to scholarly contributions, the conference included an artistic programme featuring practice-based research and experimental work, positioning artistic practice as a key mode of inquiry into AI systems and their societal implications.

The event functioned as a critical interdisciplinary platform, exploring both the opportunities and tensions introduced by generative AI, and highlighting the need to rethink creativity, responsibility, and regulation in rapidly evolving technological contexts.
