Global Shipping Think Tank Alliance was founded in Shanghai on December 13, 2016 under the joint effort of Shanghai International Shipping Institute and 17 world-renowned shipping think tank organizations from ten countries and regions such as China, Singapore, Germany, USA, Norway, South Korea, Japan, Italy, Sweden, and Hong Kong(China).
Mission
(1) Sharing research achievements
The alliance will establish a long-term cooperation mechanism, build a common research platform, and encourage alliance members to conduct joint research combining their own characteristics and complementary advantages. The achievements of collaborative researches can be shared in the alliance. At the same time, information and resources can be shared for mutual benefits on the premise that the interests of the alliance members won’t be impaired.

(2) Discussions on hot topics
The alliance will convene annual meetings to conduct forward-looking researches and discussions focusing on the hot issues and new trends in the shipping industry. The content of the topics for discussions will be first proposed by member organizations and then coordinated by the Secretariat.

(3) Enhancement of cross-region exchanges and cooperation
In the tide of economic globalization and regional economic integration, strengthening regional exchanges and cooperation has become an important driving force for various regions to accelerate economic development. Leveraging the platform of the Global Shipping Think Tank Alliance, member organizations can communicate with each other and share the shipping developments and experience in different regions and countries, so as to strengthen all-round comprehension, exchange and cooperation in more fields and at all levels.

(4) Co-preparation of proposals that comply with the shipping industry development and submission of the proposals to international organizations and competent government departments
The alliance conducts collaborative researches on major hot issues of concern in the shipping industry, and discusses for solutions and countermeasures which will be submitted to international organizations and competent government departments in the form of research results so as to provide sufficient basis and reliable reference for the formulation and improvement of policies and rules.

(5) Co-exploration of the consulting research market
The alliance brings together the world’s leading shipping think-tanks and research institutions and will give full play to and amplify the synergistic effect for co-development and exploration of the consulting research market. It will make extensive and active efforts to win research projects and expand the development space.
