Description
"It Happened Tomorrow" is a workshop series initiated in 2023 by the Visual Methodologies Collective at the Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences, in collaboration with researchers from the Gerrit Rietveld Academie and the Amsterdam University of the Arts. The workshops employ transdisciplinary drawing practices to expand climate imaginaries, addressing the "crisis of imagination" in the context of ecological challenges. Participants—including art students, archive curators, climatologists, local policymakers, architects, poets, and designers—engage with curated collections of images from the Netherlands Institute for Sound & Vision archives and Europeana's digital heritage. They collaboratively transform these images into speculative landscapes, fostering collective narratives and envisioning adaptive futures for human and more-than-human communities facing rising sea levels. The workshop was presented at the "Drawing Across, Along, Between University Borders" conference held at the University of Porto from October 16 to 18, 2024. This conference focused on the epistemological and transformative potential of drawing research to connect divergent areas in the university, emphasizing collaborations between art, science, and society to tackle artistic, educational, and societal challenges.Period | 16 Oct 2024 |
