At the New European Bauhaus Festival 2026 in Brussels, and in collaboration with the New European Bauhaus Stewardship Lab, Elise Talgorn led a workshop exploring alternative forms of heroism beyond the traditional hero’s journey. The workshop encouraged participants to rethink what it means to be a hero in the face of today's complex societal challenges and to apply the NEB Stewardship principles.Participants were introduced to different hero archetypes, such as the antihero, feminist hero, wandering hero, and fighting hero, and explored how each would respond to real-world challenges. They then designed their own hero by defining its strengths in knowledge, action, and care, inspired by the principles of NEB Stewardship, and illustrated it as a comic character.
In group discussions, participants used their newly created heroes to reflect on challenges related to the New European Bauhaus themes. The workshop demonstrated how adopting alternative perspectives can foster curiosity, collaboration, and more inclusive approaches to addressing complex issues. One key insight was that embracing the mindset of a wandering hero encouraged participants to approach change with greater openness and curiosity.
