Pathos Formulas of Protest

Description

The aim of this experiment at the IAS is to map out with a group of interdisciplinary scholars what associations and concepts a set of images evokes from the perspective of different disciplines. The images, partly art historical, partly from the news media, are connected through family resemblance and stage political or societal conflict. They can be seen as pathos formulas of protest (Aby Warburg), eliciting notions of injustice, the law, transgression, anger, punishment. In the experiment, we will use image montage and annotation to collectively create a dynamic image network from these very evocative images in a conversational setting.
