Symposium: Slow AI

Activity: Participating in or organising an eventParticipating in a conference, workshop, ...Societal

Description

Participated as a discussant in the symposium Slow AI: Practices of Thinking, Sensing, and Refusing, held on 15 May 2025 at Framer Framed. The symposium brought together artists, researchers, and technologists to critically rethink artificial intelligence through artistic and relational perspectives. Structured around three thematic blocks, the event combined short presentations with extended panel discussions, emphasizing collective reflection over rapid solution-making.

The symposium framed AI not as a neutral tool to optimise, but as a cultural and ecological phenomenon entangled with social, political, and environmental contexts. Central themes included slowness, refusal, and embodied engagement as alternative ways of relating to AI systems.

Overall, the event functioned as both a reflection on the first year of the Slow AI research project and a platform for exploring experimental, critical, and more ethical approaches to AI, culminating in the launch of a related publication and podcast on speculative futures of algorithmic technologies.
