Description
Professional Development Workshop for the 85th Annual Meeting of Academy of Management, onExperiential teaching games and simulations for educators
Sustainability challenges are urgent. Business school students need to be equipped with not only knowledge but also skills that help to critically interact with nature and addressing these complex challenges with creative solution-oriented ways. We, their teachers, don’t have the time to develop effective approaches alone and often are unable to translate our research into teaching. We need to share with each other our sustainability teaching “products” that work in the classroom setting, give students the sense of experiential learning and raise enthusiasm among them.In this participatory workshop, participants will have the chance to experience practices and techniques to overcome exactly these challenges playing the role of students via games and simulations that are free of charge and that they will be able to implement and develop in their own classroom as well. These include forms of role playing, arts & nature-based learning, systems & complexity, and AI as an education agent. In the PDW, the participants learn in an experiential way and get immediate, to no-cost, effective teaching innovations for sustainability. By doing so, we will break down the ‘closed door’ approach to teaching and share ways to transform research output into teaching material.
