Description

The course Understanding Discourses & Practices of Creativity and Innovation, coordinated by Liesbet van Zoonen, is a Professional Doctorate (PD) module focused on critically examining how creativity and innovation are defined, practiced, and applied across different contexts. It combines theoretical discussions with field visits and expert contributions to expose participants to both mainstream and alternative perspectives, including critiques of neoliberal and Western-centric narratives.

Structured in three chapters, the course moves from conceptual analysis (questioning dominant discourses and proposing inclusive alternatives), to contextual exploration (examining how creativity operates in institutional versus subcultural settings), and finally to self-reflection (connecting these insights to participants’ own research and role as innovators). The overall aim is to equip participants with the ability to critically engage with innovation discourse and apply co-creative approaches within their own practice.
