Description
Walkability is a crucial component in the design of sustainable cities. Walking offers health benefits, has no emissions and has the lowest spatial footprint of all transport modes. We aim to quantify walkability by combining datasets describing various factors that influence the quality of the walking environment (green space, shade, water, architecture, public lighting but also noise disturbance) into a walkability score and mapping it onto the road network of Amsterdam. This gives insights into the walkability of different areas in the city and also allows us to calculate optimal routes.
In the U!REKA session we will configure a walkability score together based on your preferences and generate an optimal route of approx. 2km which we will then go out to walk as a group!
