Workshop the More-Than-Human Interview

Activity: Participating in or organising an eventOrganising a conference, workshop, ...Educational

Description

This workshop begins with a theoretical introduction to ecological storytelling, exploring more-than-human agency and debating the pros and cons of anthropomorphizing nonhuman characters.

Students then engage in a hands-on exercise using the More-than-Human Interview Method—a creative inquiry where one adopts a fictional nonhuman perspective to interview a human about their memories and experiences with the natural world.

The process challenges anthropocentric thinking and asks: What would the planet think? It fosters multi-perspective dialogue and blurs the boundaries between human and nonhuman narratives.

Participants interview each other about their research projects and translate a piece of the dialogue into a comic—leveraging the post-human qualities of the medium, such as hybrid characters, non-linear time, and playful spatial storytelling.

The result: a bridge between human and nonhuman perspectives that cultivates empathy, humor, and a deeper sense of ecological connectedness.
