As part of the CURE+ program, three online seminars were held in March, April, and June of 2024, aimed at transferring knowledge from successful Creative Reuse Centers in Europe.
The CURE+ (Centers for Urban Resources, Reuse and Remanufacture) program aims to improve urban waste management through reuse and the circular economy. It is implemented by the Municipality of Kavala in collaboration with the Municipality of Riga (leader), the Municipality of Tartu (Estonia), the University of Amsterdam, and the School of Engineering and Design of Elisava in Barcelona. It is funded by the European Climate Initiative (EUKI).
The "Train the trainer" webinars focused on mapping the current status of Creative Reuse Centers in Europe and highlighting best practices. Specifically:
The first seminar, on March 14th, titled "Success Factors for Creative Reuse Centers," was presented by Frazen Tolentino-Zondervan from the Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences. The directors of the Creative Reuse Centers from the Netherlands and Sweden also participated.
The second seminar, on April 18th, aimed to present the operational methods of Creative Reuse Centers. Speakers included Ms. Isabel Ordóñez, Ms. Corinna Vosse, and Ms. Marinka Vovk and Ms. Marin Zver, who shared their experiences from successful urban waste management practices.
The third seminar, on June 13th, focused on the policy challenges of URCs. Ms. Christina Paraskevopoulou for the Municipality of Kavala presented the policy framework for managing construction and demolition waste (CDW), while Mr. Jurn Quadt and Mr. Alfred Güell shared their experiences from Rotterdam and Barcelona.
The online seminars of the CURE+ program significantly contributed to enhancing knowledge and collaboration among the involved stakeholders, promoting sustainable urban waste management, and empowering local communities.
The program continues to provide valuable information and support, strengthening the circular economy and sustainable development.
