Dataset & Syntax of the secondary outcomes of the TEAMS study

Dataset

Description

This dataset and accompanying syntax originate from the TEAMS study, a randomized controlled trial designed to investigate the optimum training variables in a resistance exercise training and protein intervention for frail older adults to improve muscle strength, mass and physical functioning; a randomized controlled trial. The aim of this secondary analysis of the TEAMS study was to investigate the effects of different training intensities during a twelve-week, supervised progressive resistance-training program performed to volitional muscle failure, with and without a dietary protein intervention, on psychosocial outcomes, executive function, and quality of life in frail community-dwelling older adults. This aim was investigated using the attached dataset, provided in .sav and .csv formats. The accompanying SPSS syntax can be executed on the .sav file after updating the file path to match the local data storage location. As a first step, participants randomized to the 20% training intensity group (randomisation group = 1) were excluded, as these individuals were unable to train to muscle failure within the prescribed 10-minute timeframe per exercise. This is done by a filter. Further details on the progressive resistance training protocol can be found in the study protocol. The second step is to restructure the data to a long data format. To run the final analysis on the long data structure, the syntax contains the procedure for running Linear Mixed Models (LMM) to account for repeated measures and analyze the time effects, with and without interaction terms to evaluate the differences between training intensities or protein intervention.Access to the dataset can be requested from the corresponding author ([email protected]) with a valid justification.
