Marta Male-Alemany (1971) is a doctor in architecture, researcher and curator specialized in design and digital production. She is currently a Head Lecturer in Digital Production at the AUAS - HvA Faculty of Technology in Amsterdam, where she leads a specialized reserach team and robotic lab, within the Urban Technology Research Program. Marta Malé-Alemany has a wide academic experience, teaching at leading schools and universities in USA and Europe, such as the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), University of Pennsylvania (U.PENN), University of California (UCLA), Southern California Institute of Architecture (SCI-Arc), AA School of Architecture London, International Univ. School of Architecture (ESARQ-UIC) and the Institute for Advanced Architecture of Catalonia (IAAC).
In both academic and professional domains, Marta’s work follows a research-oriented approach that merges design and manufacturing in an integrative manner. Her aim is to address current challenges while exploring the creative and conceptual opportunities that arise from advanced forms of production. In recent years, her academic focus has been guiding students and researchers in seeking novel material solutions and experimental building methods, involving: hands-on material research, hacking industrial CNC or robotic fabrication equipment with DIY devices, and programming software for the generation, simulation and optimization of form. This work has been internationally recognized and pushed by her alumni in other academic environments and innovative design offices.
Marta’s own professional practice specializes in applying these technologies for the production of bespoke interior designs, large-scale installations and architectural applications. Integral to her practice is to share her knowledge speaking at events, act as a consultant for other professionals and curate exhibitions on design & technology for a larger public. Her projects have been published in various design media.
