The Influence of Family and School on Future Life Plans of Adolescents Adolescence is a life phase in which tentative plans about the future are developed. Given that the family and the school constitute the two main socializing institutions during this life phase, our central research question is to what extent and in what ways the family and the school influence the ideas and expectations of adolescents about their young adult life course. To answer this question, we use data from the 2005 Youth & Culture study in which information from students, who were enrolled in 69 secondary schools spread across The Netherlands, and one of their parents, was collected.
