Research output: Working paper/preprintWorking paperAcademic

Abstract

The concept of "good work" in financial modelling is shaped by a complex interplay of regulatory constraints, technological advancements, and organizational culture. This study employs qualitative research methods to investigate how financial modellers in the Netherlands define and experience good work while navigating the dual forces of compliance and innovation. Based on 12 in-depth interviews, the research develops the concept of ‘regulatory creativity’—a term grounded in the lived experiences of professionals adapting within strict regulatory environments. The findings highlight the critical role of supportive leadership and organizational culture in enabling professionals to reconcile external constraints with aspirations for creativity and professional fulfillment. By offering novel insights into the dynamics of good work in regulated professions, this study advances sociological discussions on meaningful work and highlights adaptive practices that foster resilience and innovation in restrictive environments.
