Abstract
This paper discusses media literacy of students in higher education in contemporary network society and is part of a broader PhD research into media literacy and the success of students in higher education. Different aspect of media literacy are addressed with the help of various theoretical frames in order to pinpoint those skills which are of importance in higher education and especially in the network society. Although this paper will be a theoretical disquisition data from the PhD research will provide some examples. The data is gathered by digital surveys, conducted at the Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences in the Department of Media, Communications among 904 students and are statically analysed using PASW (formally SPSS) Statistics 21.0.
