The Impact of Autonomous Ground Service Equipment on Business Model - a Delphi-based Scenario Analysis.

Research output: Contribution to conferenceAbstractAcademic

Abstract

The adoption of autonomous systems will revolutionize ground handling operations in airport airside area. Traditional business models involving manually operated equipment could potentially change. While the exact impact remains unclear, this research explores how autonomous systems will disrupt existing models and contribute to the development of new, innovative business models.
This research will employ a Delphi-based scenario analysis with two rounds of surveys, involving 18 expert participants in the aviation technology industry. The study will focus on forecasting the future of autonomous airside ground handling operations. By utilizing expert input, the study will generate a fuzzy clustering of potential future scenarios, offering insights into the evolution of business models in the context of autonomous systems and their integration into airport ground handling operations.
The expected findings will reveal a consensus among aviation technology experts regarding the future business models for autonomous ground handling operations. A holistic system model, centered around automated equipment and integrated smart network operations, will likely emerge as the dominant business model, reshaping current industry practices. The findings will highlight the strategic shifts required for successful implementation and the potential benefits of adopting autonomous systems.
This research provides valuable insights into the effects of disruptive technological changes on business models. By utilizing expert opinions and scenario-based forecasting, it identifies alternative future scenarios within the aviation industry ecosystem. The research will help stakeholders navigate unpredictable changes, aiding in the strategic planning of autonomous technology implementation and highlighting the potential for new business models that address both operational challenges and emerging opportunities.
